The right to freedom of expression has undergone great changes in the last twenty years in the Americas.
In 1998, the Office of the Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression attached to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights began the publication of thematic reports that have served as a guide for the entire region, establishing standards in this area.
