As part of the commemoration of International Human Rights Day, celebrated on December 10, the National Television Council (CNTV) of Chile published an investigation into the complaints made to this institution about inappropriate content on television and other media such as radio and social networks. According to the investigation carried out, it was determined that 77% of the people surveyed consider it necessary that hate speech should be subject to regulations without altering freedom of expression. Faced with this investigation, the organization Digital Rights spoke exposing his position on the risks it represents for freedom of expression if speech is regulated.

On November 28, the journalist and social leader was assassinated in La Unión, Nariño Wilder Cordoba. The Foundation for the Freedom of the Press (FLIP) presented figures on attacks against the press in 2022. According to the organization, this year the press received more than 500 attacks, which include almost two hundred threats, which grew by 13% compared to 2021. In most cases, the attackers are unknown. Among other things, FLIP reported that the 2022 electoral period was the most violent in the last decade.

The United Nations Human Rights Committee said to Ecuador internationally responsible for the violation of the right to freedom of expression of the newspaper El Universo and the effective judicial protection of Carlos Eduardo Pérez Barriga, César Enrique Pérez Barriga and Carlos Nicolás Pérez Lapentti, in their capacity as directors and shareholders of the newspaper EL UNIVERSO during the government of Rafael Correa, against the constitutional reforms, other laws and public policies that sought to subdue and censor journalists and the media.

The Guatemalan Justice ordered journalist José Rubén Zamora Marroquín to be prosecuted for alleged money laundering, influence peddling and blackmail. The journalist community claims that the investigation is being carried out to silence his journalistic work because the 67-year-old communicator was arrested five days after publishing criticism of the Giammattei government through the newspaper El Periódico.

La Chamber of Deputies approved the General Law of Social Communication, however, in the opinion of the organizations Article 19 and FUNDAR, there are still elements that generated "the declaration of an unconstitutional state of affairs" by the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation. The organizations highlight that the new legislation does not include the principles of media plurality, equity, non-discrimination and accountability as guidelines for the allocation of official advertising spending; nor does it make a distinction between the various means of communication and dissemination. El News Director El Corcel de Palenque, Flavio Reyes de Dios was hit by a truck while riding his motorcycle on the Palenque-La Libertad highway in the state of Chiapas. The journalist pointed out that the van was expected near the scene of the accident and that he remembers having seen it before. The organization Article 19 demanded protection measures for the journalist from the Mechanism for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders and Journalists and from the Chiapas State Attorney General's Office an investigation into the journalistic work of the victim.

The Inter-American Court of Human Rights condemned to Paraguay for the murder of journalist Santiago Leguizamón Zaván, which occurred on April 26, 1991 due to the lack of an effective and diligent investigation, affecting the right to life, freedom of thought and expression by not supporting the rights to judicial guarantees, judicial protection and personal integrity to the detriment of the family of the deceased journalist.
